If you are driving from Orlando, Port Canaveral is the homeport, not Miami. Miami and Fort Lauderdale are the other two Florida doors. Fort Lauderdale is not a Carnival, NCL, or MSC homeport in this winter window.
This page does not pick the ship until I know the kids' ages. It picks the port, then a lane.
The family week I plant first
Star of the Seas, Sunday 17 January 2027, 7 nights Western Caribbean plus CocoCay from Port Canaveral, is the first-family sailing Coco is watching. Space is not held. Coco does not promise Kids Sail Free.
Royal is the 7-night Icon-class plus CocoCay default when the island day is not the whole trip. Tell Coco who needs to sleep well before a cabin type is picked. Coco will not recommend an inside with no natural light for a first cruise if it can help it.
The short Disney comparison
Disney Wish from the same port is the short Bahamas comparison: Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay. Inventory is typically tight. Disney Destiny is still a Fort Lauderdale story in this window; the Wish-class pile-up at Canaveral is a later 2027–2028 deployment story, not a reason to ignore Star in January.
Disney vs Royal for a first cruise from Port Canaveral is a kids-club and character question, not a bigger-is-better question. I will not put a 6,000-passenger default on a family with kids under 12 in peak season unless you ask for that energy on purpose.
Carnival in the same week
Mardi Gras, Saturday 16 January 2027, sits next to Star. Same port, same week, different island (Celebration Key, not CocoCay). If you already know Carnival, we start there. If you do not, we still talk through CHEERS! staying on the ship at Celebration Key.
What I need before I quote
Kids on board, ages, and whether anyone needs a real night of sleep. Then a human checks live inventory if you ask for a real quote. I will not invent a fare on a blog post.
Space is not held. No sample fares. Virgin is 18+.
